Cyndi Lauper is excited to announce the 5th annual Cyndi Lauper & Friends: Home for the Holidays benefit concert on Saturday, December 5 at New York City's historic Beacon Theatre in support of the True Colors Fund's work to end homelessness among lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth.
For the past four years, this concert has played to sold out audiences of over 2,800 each year and welcomed performers like P!nk, Sarah McLachlan, Josh Groban, Jason Mraz, 50 Cent, Natalie Maines, Nelly Furtado, Rosie O'Donnell, Adam Lambert, Norah Jones, Whoopi Goldberg, Susan Sarandon, Lou Reed, Alan Cumming, Wanda Sykes, and many more. Home for the Holidays has quickly become the signature event for Cyndi's True Colors Fund and provides a significant source of funding towards fulfilling the organization's mission.
"When I first learned that up to 40 percent of all homeless youth in this country identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender I was shocked and saddened," remarked Lauper, co-founder of the True Colors Fund. "For far too long homeless youth have not received the attention, resources and funding necessary to bring an end to this epidemic. My hope is that through this inspiring evening of music and comedy we can raise awareness and much needed funds to help these young people."
A growing body of research shows that up to 40% of the 1.6 million youth who experience homelessness each year identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. The most commonly cited reason for these young people leaving their homes is family rejection. The True Colors Fund is working hard to end to this epidemic by educating and engaging the public, advocating within government, working collaboratively with young people, facilitating leading research, and organizing communities to develop solutions for preventing and ending LGBT youth homelessness.
Please join us this year for another incredible Home for the Holidays!
